NOTD: China Glaze Glitter All The Way

China Glaze Glitter All The Way

Yes, I am aware that I'm wearing holiday nail polish on Halloween. But would you pass up the glittery goodness that is above? I didn't think so.
This is from China Glaze's new 'Holiday Joy' collection for Christmas 2012. All the colours in the collection look super pretty.

China Glaze Glitter All The Way- bottle shot

Glitter All The Way is a clear base packed with gold, purple, green and red glitter. It was almost opaque in two coats, which is what is on my nails. However, after two coats, there are still some bald spots on my nails. I probably should of given it three.

Glitter All The Way-macro

See all the glitter? So pretty. Just a word of warning-this polish is a top coat eater. I had to put on four coats of top coat on this, and it was still gritty! Ah well. Small price to pay.

Monday Questionnaire: October 29, 2012

I can't believe it's Monday again already!! The time seems to be flying by lately.

1) Mood: Pretty happy. The weather is looking brighter for this week, so that's good. And I don't feel like I have too much to do right now.

2) On the topic of Hurricane Sandy, are there any natural disasters common to where you live?
Nope! I have never experienced a tornadoe, earthquake, hurricane, tsunami...I guess I'm pretty lucky!!

3) What is your favourite song at the moment?
I'm loving Taylor Swift's new album, "Red". Every song on it actually, but if I had to pick a favourite song off of it, it would be "22". So catchy!!

4) Current nail polish:
China Glaze Glitter All the Way. It's from their holiday collection...super cute name!!

5) If you could only use one makeup product, what would you use?
I really hope this never happens to me!! But if I had to choose, I would say mascara. I feel like my skin could survive with concealer/foundation, but my eyes always look really tired with no eye makeup on them. But that would be closely followed by eyeliner and concealer.

6) Current outfit:
Black leggings and a purple, white and green striped cropped shirt. Very comfy yet not sloppy-looking!! (Those are my favourite kind of outfits.)

7) Are you good at keeping in touch with friends and family?
Close friends and family, yes. But sometimes I feel like I don't see or talk to some of my friends as much as I would like to.

8) Are you excited about any holiday makeup collections this year?
Well, every holiday nail polish collection...but for makeup, I'm eyeing some of Benefits mini sets. They look really cute!!

9) The world's most wonderful chef is at your house, ready to cook you any meal you desire- what would you choose?
Is it bad if I say buffalo chicken wings...? They're my all time favourite food!!!

10) Weekly Goals:
I guess just being able to check off everything on my to do list!!!

Thanks for reading, and I hope everyone has a good week!!

I <3 Drugstore Makeup Tag!

So emilynoel83 of Youtube tagged me to this tag. So without further ado, here is the "I <3 Drugstore Makeup Tag"! It consists of eight questions, all about my favorite brands/products you can get from your local drugstore.

Let's jump right in!!

1) What is your favourite drugstore makeup brand?
This is sort of a hard question. I like lots of brands from the drugstore; as I think they all have their hits and misses. I can't just choose one! Ok, I'll pick one for each category. I like Revlon for their face products, I like Covergirl for their eye products, Maybelline for their mascaras, and Revlon for lip products.

2) What are your favorite face, cheek and lip products?
My favourite face product
would have to be a primer from Rimmel- The Fix and Perfect Pro.

Rimmel Fix and Perfect Primer

This makes my foundation stay on a lot longer!! And it makes my face very smooth and soft. I'm not sure that's viable criteria for a good primer, but whatever.
My favourite cheek product is a highlighter from Revlon- the Colorstay Mineral Finishing Powder in Rose.

Revlon Colorstay Mineral Powder in Rose

It gives such a nice glow to the cheeks. I apply it on my cheekbones, above my eyebrows and on my cupid's bow and it really brightens up my face.
Another favourite cheek product is a blush from Rimmel. It's in Pink Sorbet. It's more pigmented than any of my MAC blushes, and it gives a nice sheen to the face without being shimmery or sparkly.

Rimmel Lasting Finish Blush in Pink Sorbet

My favourite lip product is also from Revlon. It's the Lip Butter in Sugar Frosting, which is a light pink with gold shimmer. It's a good way to do a nude without washing yourself out.

Revlon Lip Butter in Sugar Frosting

I also really love all the eos lip balms. They make your lips very soft without being too thin or too thick. And they smell great!

3) Least favourite product?
That would have to be something I bought from Hard Candy (sold at Walmart) a while ago. I was hoping it would be a good highlight, but it turned out to be a chalky white powdery with yellow glitter scattered around. Not a fan.

Hard Candy Moon Glow Powder

4) What is your best makeup bargain?
For me, that would be Covergirl eyeshadow (the singles, duos, trios and quads). They run about $3-$6 CAD, and they have really great pigmentation and colour payoff. One of my favourites is the colour Tapestry Taupe.

Covergirl Eyeshadow in Tapestry Taupe

5) What is your favourite underdog product? (Something you love that often gets overlooked?)
Annabelle eyeliners! They are such amazing quality and they are so inexpensive!! They are comparable to Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliners.

Annabelle Eyeliners

6) A drugstore product that is overpriced?
I don't have a specific product, but I think a lot of L'Oreal products are overpriced, when they're quality doesn't really surpass some more reasonable brands.

7) Show your best drugstore dupe(s)!
Well, this question brings me back to the Annabelle eyeliners. Particularly a line called the Smoothliners. A lot of the colours in the line are dupes for many of the Urban Decay 24/7 Eyeliners, which are about three times the price.

Urban Decay 24/7 Liner in Perversion
Annabelle Smoothliner in Brownie

These aren't exact dupes (one is black and the other is brown), but the intensity of their pigmentation is very similar.

8) Drugstore product that isn't worth the hype?
I know this isn't technically a drugstore priced item, but these are sold at the drugstore. And they're Essie nail polishes. I know a lot people love them, but I own three, and they just don't live up to the quality of my OPI and China Glaze ones.

Essie Polishes in (L-R) Case Study, Fishnet Stockings, Fiji

So that's the entire tag! Thanks for reading!!

NOTD: China Glaze Agro

China Glaze Agro

This is another colour that I think is great for fall. Coming from the March 2011 Hunger Games collection, Agro is a olive green with gold and orange shimmer.

It was opaque in one coat, but I gave it two coats, and then a coat of top coat.

China Glaze Agro- with flash

I took a picture with flash, so you could hopefully see the shimmer quality of this polish. These pictures were taken the day I painted them. I've had this polish on for three days no, and no chips yet!

Agro- you can see gold shimmer in this one

I think any olive green colour is great for fall...this one reminds of trees I guess, and other green stuff! It also could be incorporated into a Christmas manicure!

Thanks for reading, and hope you all are having a great day!!

Monday Questionnaire: October 22, 2012

Haven't done one of these in a while, but I figured it would be a good way to kick off the start of the week.

1) Mood:
Pretty happy, actually. It's just the extremely gloomy/snowy weather that's keeping me down!!!

2) What was the best part of your weekend?
Going out for sushi with my friend on Saturday. It's always nice to grab food with friends and kind of forget about life for awhile (although that's easier said than done!)

3) If you HAD to choose one: drastic haircut or drastic hair colour?
I would go with a drastic hair colour. It's easier to change back if something goes wrong!!

4) Current nail polish:
China Glaze Agro. NOTD coming soon!!

5) You're carving a pumpkin, what do you carve?
Something pretty simple...I'm not exactly delicate with my hands. Maybe an unicorn?

6) Current outfit?
Black leggings, mint chiffon shirt, riding boots and some rather unflattering socks...oh well, no one can see them.

7) Are there any T.V shows you are really loving right now?
Criminal Minds!! I never liked it before (I can't handle any gore at all), but now I can't stop watching it!! It doesn't hurt that there are some very attractive guys in it...

8) Do you change your makeup routine with the seasons? How is it different for fall?
As we progress into colder weather, I usually darken up my eye makeup. My face makeup stays pretty constant year round.

9) Are you dressing up for Halloween this year?
Nope, not this year. I actually have no idea what I'm doing for Halloween this year.

10) Weekly Goals:
Don't let the weather get me down too much!!!

Hope everyone has a great week and thanks for reading!

NOTD: China Glaze Hopeful

China Glaze Hopeful

This is a colour I've been looking for awhile as, believe it or not, I don't have anything like it in my collection. I usually gravitate towards darker colours, but for some reason, I felt the urge to wear a colour like this.

I found this is China Glaze's Breast Cancer Awareness Collection 2012- United in Purpose, a collection full of pinks. OPI had also released one, but China Glaze's was more extensive, having 12 colours instead of 2.

This colour was pretty much opaque in two coats, but three probably would have made it completely opaque. That's pretty good, as shades of this colour family are usually pretty sheer.

China Glaze Hopeful

And additional tidbit of information-since my top coat clumped up and I have yet to get more, I'm not wearing top coat here. And I've gotten four days (and counting!) with no chips and minimal tip wear.

Edit: After five days of wear, this nail polish has started to shatter at the tips. This hasn't happened to me with any other nail polish, so I think this might be due to the lack of top coat.

Overall, I'm very pleased with this colour!!

My Fall Nail Polish Picks!

So since the fall season has officially started (although it feels like winter), I decided I would share some of my favourite nail polishes for fall with you today.

I'll post swatches of the polishes if I have them, so you can see what they look like on the nail.

Oranges

China Glaze Riveting

China Glaze's Riveting comes from the Hunger Games collection, and it is is a orange jelly with gold and yellow flecks. It's bright, yes, but it is definitely wearable enough for the fall weather!!

China Glaze Harvest Moon

This colour, also from the Hunger Games collection, is absolutely perfect for fall. It's like pumpkins combined with falling leaves and pennies (and shimmer!). It's a copper shimmer.

This is what it looks like on the nail. Pretty, huh?

Reds

OPI Every Month is Oktoberfest

This is from the Germany collection, released by OPI not too long ago. It's a deep purple/violet/red colour, with shimmer.

This is actually what's on my nails right now!!

Revlon Autumn Berry

This one even has autumn in the name! This is a deep berry with gold shimmer. Super pretty!!

China Glaze Velvet Bow

This is a mini size of a colour that was released with last year's holiday collection. This is a deep wine shade, with no shimmer. Super smooth formula.

Greens

OPI Uh Oh Roll Down the Window

I think green's are always a really great colour for autumn, and this beautiful olive shade is no exception. Don't let the borderline gross name speak for this one.

OPI Just Spotted the Lizard

This is from the Spiderman collection, released June 2012. Multichrome colour, shifting from gold to green to blue. A dupe for Chanel's Peridot.

Blues

OPI Into the Night

Also from the Spiderman collection, this is a deep midnight blue with shimmer. I think it's perfect for both fall and winter.

China Glaze Smoke and Ashes

This has such a deep blue base, it looks black in most lights. Smoke and Ashes is another one from the Hunger Games collection. With blue and green shimmer, this one is very similar to another coming out with China Glaze's Halloween 2012 collection, Wicked.

Purples

Revlon's Facets of Fuchsia

This is the only colour in this category, as I don't wear purples very often. It has a deep purple jelly base with purple hexagon glitter. Super pretty. A dupe for a Deborah Lippman polish.

So that's it for my fall nail polish picks! Hope this gives you some inspiration for what to wear on your nails when you go trick or treating/apple picking/hay riding and other fall activities!!!

NOTD: China Glaze Harvest Moon

China Glaze Harvest Moon

How perfect is this colour for fall? It reminds me of falling leaves. Harvest Moon is a colour from the Hunger Games collection released last March. I always thought it was a bit of an odd colour to release just before spring and summer, but it is very fitting for this time of year!

Harvest Moon is a beauiful copper colour, with gold, orange and brown shimmer. It reminds me of a penny.

China Glaze Harvest Moon-natural light

It's true to it's colour in the bottle, and the shimmer does translate onto the nail. The formula was good; it was opaque in one coat, but I gave it two.
It was smooth, but I got quite a few air bubbles on one of my thumbs. Ah, well. C'est la vie.

China Glaze Harvest Moon-indoors

Here I included a picture of the polish under artificial light, just so you could see how shimmery and pretty it is. Definitely an autumn staple.
